🗣 Freedom to Vote: October 2 Action

One month before Election Day, we’re gathering clergy and people of faith, students, workers and others concerned about voting for a letter delivery and press conference directed towards members of the local boards of election, who have unprecedented authority to limit whose votes are counted. We’ll deliver a letter signed by clergy in each county, and we’ll ask them to honor their commitments to count every vote and certify the results.

Why is this important?

Recent decisions by the State Board of Elections have given local county boards increased latitude to reject reasonable-impediment voter ID ballots by simple majority, challenge absentee ballots over minor envelope irregularities, and use databases that risk wrongly flagging eligible citizens. Because local boards now hold significantly more power to determine whose vote counts, it is critical that we show up to hold election administrators accountable to their core duty: enabling every eligible voter to cast their ballot and ensuring every result is certified fairly.
